Maersk has announced that its 1,810TEU vessel, Maersk Vallvik, has arrived at the Port of Durban, South Africa with over 700 refrigerated containers to support the upcoming citrus season.
“The Maersk Vallvik is phasing into our AMEX (America – South Africa) service and we are using this opportunity to reposition empty reefers from the Middle East into South Africa to ensure we are ready to assist our customers for the upcoming citrus season,” said Mark Cairns, head of Africa cold chain at A.P. Moller – Maersk.
Maersk Vallvik is the first resupply vessel to arrive with a few more being planned through the season, Maersk’s spokesman told Container News.
The Danish shipping company noted that this is part of a continuous reefer repositioning plan to ensure that Maersk can serve its customer’s forecast demand throughout the full year to cover all fruit seasons.
