CMA CGM has announced a new Port Congestion Surcharge (PCS) from the port of Mersin to several destinations worldwide due to current delays in the Turkish port.
The French carrier said that a surcharge of US$100/TEU will be implemented on dry containers that will be transported from Mersin to West & East Mediterranean, Adriatic, Black Sea, North Africa, Morocco, Portugal, West Coast & East Coast of South America, East Coast Central America & Caribbean, West Coast Central America & Mexico West Coast, Windward, Guyana North Brazil, Middle East Gulf, Red Sea, North East Asia, South East Asia, China and Hong Kong SAR.
This new PCS will be effective from 27 March, except for Puerto Rico where the surcharge will take effect on 25 April.
CMA CGM noted that the Port Congestion Surcharge is a result of congestion/waiting time plus berth time on the current vessels berthing sequences, which have increased laden cargo lead-time and operating costs and have affected empty equipment reloading and repositioning frequency.
